I adore baking. In fact, I am borderline obsessed with it. I do, however, get confused sometimes as to which tips to use when frosting. When in doubt, my workaround has always been to fit the tip in a pastry bag with a tiny bit of frosting and pipe it out on a flat surface. This, obviously, get tiring after a while (not to mention wasteful).
