SURPRISE: J.K. Rowling Has a New Crime Novel Out

Cuckoos Calling As you may note, the book to the left has no mention of author J.K. Rowling anywhere. Nevertheless, it was revealed over the weekend that this is her new crime novel written under the pen name, Robert Galbraith. Published in April, this new novel sold as few as 500 copies before skyrocketing over the weekend on Amazon by 507,000%.

As a huge J.K. Rowling fan, I was kind of curious to see what this new novel was about as I was not crazy about her last novel, A Casual Vacancy. According to Amazon, the new crime novel is “a brilliant mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel’s suicide” and further:

“After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you’ve never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you’ve never seen them under an investigation like this.”

While I’m a bit skeptical about this plot, I will have faith. J.K. Rowling is known to be a huge fan of British who-dun-it novels so hopefully that will translate well into this new book. The Cuckoo’s Calling has also received pretty great accolades prior to her being revealed as the true author.

Interested in reading, The Cuckoo’s Calling? It seems you and I are not the only ones as it is temporarily out of stock in print form. It is, however, available in digital for $9.99 through Amazon. Click here to buy!
