You’ll Like This If: You liked apocalyptic films, 28 Days Later, and Contagion.
You’ll Hate This If: You hate you went in thinking this was going to be exactly like the book.
The Short and Skinny:War War Z follows U.N. employee, Gerry Lane, as he first encounters the Z epidemic and subsequently takes on the job of trying to find the root of it before it decimates humanity. Based on the book by the same title, World War Z is a fairly true to the essence of the book. Does it give 50 accounts of people affected from all over the world? No, but, let’s face it, that would basically be impossible to film and wouldn’t make for a very cohesive storyline. Does it make reference and/or show the most important aspects of the book? Yes, even if just in passing. If you’ve never read the book, this film is pure summer fun. It’s got great animation, sweeping scenery, and, for those of you who like a good explosion, great flight-vs-fight scenes.
Although I would have preferred a more finalized ending, World War Z is a solid blockbuster and a nice, somewhat fresh, take on the zombie genre.
Keep or Pass: Keep!
