You’ll Like This If: You liked Wedding Crashers, are obsessed with Google, and have a sense of humor.
You’ll Hate This If: You hate Google and product placement.
The Short and Skinny:
The Internship features Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson was two salesmen who are down on their luck after their company closes down. With hardly any other skills other than sales, they bamboozle their way into an internship at Google where they must compete with the likes of Ivy-league programmers and tech-savvy geniuses. The prize: a job at Google.
I was ready not to like this film. I generally dislike films that have heavy product placement and discuss almost exclusively one company. Call it what you will – low expectations, whatever - I really did enjoy The Internship. There were lots of great cameos and, truth be told, it was pretty funny despite some of its more contrived situations. And call me crazy, but I also kind of loved seeing the Google campus. Admittedly, I may also be a bit biased as I am a huge Google fangirl. While The Internship IS pretty much a big Google-athon, it is worth seeing if for no other reason than the bromance between Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. If you liked The Social Network and Wedding Crashers, you’re sure to like The Internship.
Keep or Pass: Keep!
